The Jail Ministry allows FBC members to volunteer in local correctional faciliIties to bring the message and love of Christ to inmates. If any FBC members are interested in volunteering, they can contact the chaplains of these facilities for information on certification with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and for possible ministry needs.

Bradshaw State Jail, Henderson

Story Book Project is a program to help fathers and their children stay connected.  Volunteers oversee inmates as they choose books for their children and then help them learn to read these books expressively. Recordings are made of the men reading the books.  The men may also choose to talk to their children about the books, pray for their children, or sing to them. CDs are burned from the recordings, and then the books and the CDs are sent to the children. The children can hear their fathers read to them whenever they want.

MTC-Operated East Texas Treatment Facility, Henderson

Each week volunteers lead a class of female inmates and a class of male inmates in the study of The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.  Each class meets for seven weeks.  First Baptist Church volunteers began this ministry in February of 2009.

Volunteers host Sunday School classes for male and female inmates and a Sunday service for male inmates.  The men's classes are held in both English and Spanish.

Rusk County Jail

First Baptist Church volunteers join with volunteers from various local churches to teach a weekly Bible study for male and female inmates.  Volunteers also provide Sunday morning services for male inmates.
